2:30-3pm, Superior-Municipal Room The Dollar Value of the Last Piece of the Puzzle (T11) Vince Gennaro
How much would you be willing to pay to improve your team enough to make it into the postseason? Does the potential for windfall revenues from postseason play justify paying top dollar for a player who might (or might not) get your club to the next level? Clearly, there's a relationship between more wins and higher attendance (and, of course, higher revenues), but what is the nature of the association? Those are the sorts of questions addressed in this presentation. Using regression analysis and other statistical tools, Vince Gennaro explores variables - from new stadiums to labor stoppages to market share - affecting and complicating the wins-attendance equation.
Vince Gennaro (VAGennaro@aol.com) consults for a wide range of clients, including an MLB team. Over his 30-year business career, he served as a CEO of a public company, was president of a billion dollar division of Pepsico, and an owner of a women's pro basketball team. His innovative analytical work on the business of baseball has been featured in The Sporting News and the New York Times, and he has written for The Hardball Times, Boston Baseball and the Red Sox Annual. His book on the business of baseball will be published in early 2007 by Maple Street Press. He has an MBA from the University of Chicago and lives in Purchase, NY with his wife, Karen and daughter, Danielle, also a SABR member.
