Mike Emeigh was born in December 1955, and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. As a youngster, he especially remembers watching Roberto Clemente playing right field at Forbes Field. Other special baseball memories of his youth include playing 'All-Star Baseball' with his best friend, and attending Game 5 of the 1971 World Series (the only one he attended).
Mike earned a B.S. in Chemistry from Carnegie-Mellon University. His professional career has taken him south with stops in West Virginia and Southern Maryland. He currently resides in North Carolina where he works in the healthcare services industry.
Mike joined SABR at Neal Traven's urging in 1996. His best experience with membership so far has been attending SABR 32 in Boston.
He likes reading almost anything baseball-related, as long as it is well-written. His research interests are Statistical Analysis, mostly on defensive performance. He is especially proud of a lengthy series he wrote evaluating analysis approaches for defense, published on Baseball Think Factory. There are many projects he would like to get started on, if he could only find the time!!! He does find the time to serve as list owner for SABR-L, and he heads the local SABR group for occasional get-togethers.
