The Larry Dierker Chapter will hold its next monthly meeting at 7 p.m. on Monday, November 20, 2017. It will be held at the Spaghetti Western Restaurant, 1608 Shepherd Drive in Houston, a few blocks south of I-10, the Katy Freeway. All baseball fans are welcome.
We have been given a copy of the brand-new 45-minute documentary "A Long Way Home," which details the difficult path Negroes and people of color had to break into organized baseball. The documentary features interviews and videos of Hank Aaron, Jim "Mudcat" Grant, Orlando Cepeda and locals Jimmy Wynn, J. R. Richard, Enos Cabell, Deacon Jones, and Bobby Tolan. Jimmy has agreed to be with us and answer questions. This documentary has not been released to the public yet, but we have received permission to show it to you.
Also on the program will be Dick Bily to talk about George Steinbrenner, and Tom White will roll out his long-awaited trivia contest.
Come early and join us for some great Italian fare — or order when you get here at the meeting. Service is available through our time at the restaurant and, although ordering food is up to you, order something. We aren’t getting this great meeting space for free. If enough of us don’t order, no host restaurant is going to welcome us for long. So, bring your appetite and your wallet. The prices are very reasonable. And the food is bon appetit.
