SABR Committees: Bibliography Committee

SABR Committees Home

The Bibliography Committee was formed to locate, identify, evaluate, classify and describe the literature of the national pastime. Frank Phelps was the founding chairperson.

The committee's largest project is The Baseball Index project, an ongoing effort to catalog all baseball literature. The Baseball Index is a database for finding out what has been written on any baseball subject, from the earliest days of baseball to the present. The database currently contains over 130,000 records of books, articles, book sections, and other materials.

The committee also prepares bibliographies on baseball topics, indexes to baseball books, conducts research into baseball literature, and writes reviews of past and current baseball books. The committee publishes SABR Research Guides on a variety of baseball topics, a quarterly listing of new baseball publications (Current Baseball Publications, with archives available on this site from 1995 through 2000), and a quarterly committee newsletter.
